       David Gailey was born and raised in the Kansas City, Kansas area, and presently lives in Olathe, Kansas. After military service in the US Navy, Dave received degrees in industrial arts education from Pittsburg Kansas State University, and a degree in public school administration from the University of Kansas (go HAWKS!). Dave taught in the Kansas City area for nine years, then became a building principal in Tribune, Kansas. He was principal in Kinsley, Kansas, and was superintendent of schools in Cedar Vale, KS, Axtell, KS, and Haddam, KS. He retired from education at the end of the 1997-98 school year, and is presently working as a Child Support Enforcement Officer for the Olathe office of Kansas Social and Rehabilitation Services. Dave married Lora Ann Viers in 1967; they have two children. Michael is in the process of relocating to the Portland/ Vancouver area; Rebecca is a senior at Emporia Kansas State University. In the 1980's, Dave worked with his mother (Leone Adkins Gailey) to develop a brief Adkins family history. Dave's present hobbies include shooting sports, fishing, and the history of the American west. Dave and Lora spend most vacations in the Rocky Mountains, visiting and photographing the "ghost towns and mining camps" of Colorado.


      Lora Ann (Viers) Gailey was born and raised in the Stockton, MO area, and moved to Olathe, KS in the 1950's. She attended Parsons Community College (KS), worked as a secretary at Hallmark Cards (Kansas City, MO), and completed a degree in business education at Pittsburgh Kansas State University in 1966. She met David Gailey at college, and they were married while Lora was teaching business education at Piper, KS, in 1967. Both Dave and Lora taught at Piper High School in 1967-68 and 1968-69, and Lora remained at Piper in 1969-70, when Dave began teaching in the Kansas City, KS school district. Lora held several part and full-time secretarial jobs while Dave was a school administrator in several Kansas districts. Lora and Dave have two children, Michael Patrick and Rebecca Lynn. Michael is relocating to the Portland/Vancouver area; Rebecca is a senior at Emporia Kansas State University. Lora enjoys travel and, as you can tell by Dave's size, He is an excellent cook. 


       Rebecca is the daughter of Dave and Lora Gailey, the grand-daughter of Leone Blanche (Adkins) Gailey and the great-grand-daughter of James Henry Adkins. She is a senior at Emporia Kansas State University, majoring in music with emphasis on vocal. She has toured parts of Europe with a summer high school/college vocal and instrumental group, The name of the group that Rebecca was in when she toured Europe was the CONTINENTALS and has sung with Emporia State University's Acapala Choir at Carnegie Hall, New York. Rebecca is active in a Baptist church in Emporia, the "Christian Challenge" organization at ESU, and spent the last two summers working at the City Union Mission in Kansas City, Missouri. Her long-range plans include a graduate degree in Youth Ministry and/or overseas missionary work. 

        Nelson Stafford Nelson is retired after 40 years in the industrial painting and sand-blasting business, working in the Tulsa, OK area. After retirement, he and his wife June moved to Kansas to be closer to their grandchildren. He loves to do woodworking and has made several pieces for his kids and grandkids. He also likes to travel and go camping.



          June Stafford (wife of Nelson Stafford) June retired from KMart after 21 years. After moving to Kansas she returned to work as a receptionist at Kustom Signals in Chanute, KS. Her favorite hobby is sewing. She has made clothes for her family, as well as for other people. She also enjoys sewing crafts and walking for exercise.


       Murl Stafford has worked for over 25 years in the lumber business, the last 8 years at Home Depot in the Commercial Sales area. His favorite past-time is working with wood. He has made everything from furniture to picture frames. He also enjoys watching all types of sports.


       Betty Stafford (wife of Murl Stafford) Betty is a Medical Technologist and has been employed in that capacity for almost 37 years. She currently works for Harris Methodist Hospital in Azle, TX. Her hobbies include gardening, making quilts and sewing of all types.


       Donna Stafford Mullins Donna has been married for 27 years to Charles Mullins and they have lived in Fort Worth, Texas all their married life. She worked for 25 years for Aetna Insurance Co., in Fort Worth and Arlington, Texas. Since Charles retired in 1995 and Donna in 1996, they have spent their time traveling and being with their grandchildren. Donna also enjoys making teddy bears, reading and working on family history.


       Jimmy Stafford Jim is a Supervisor for the City of Yale, Oklahoma. Being a Supervisor in a city the size of Yale means being called upon to do a variety of things in the absence of his employees. He may be actually supervising one day and then driving the garbage truck the next day or picking up a stray dog, at any time. In his spare time, he loves to go to garage sales or antiquing. He has a storage room full of his "treasures" and sells some periodically to make room for new-found treasures.


       Wanda Stafford (wife of Jimmy Stafford) Wanda is a certified teacher and has worked with four year olds as the Director of the Head Start program in Yale for the last 20 years. She also enjoys collecting antique cookie jars and accompanies Jimmy on some of his treasure hunts. Jimmy and Wanda had their first grandchild April 2000 and enjoy getting to spend time with him also.


       Julie Stafford (daughter of Jimmy Stafford) Julie is a billing clerk for Stillwater, OK Radiology. Her leisure time is spent in any type of outdoor activities. She especially enjoys working in her yard, river rafting and camping out with her friends.


       Earlene Gabriel Earlene and her husband Jim owned their own business in Southern California for 10 years. Earlene did all the book work, payroll and tax detail for the company. She also worked for 14 years with Sears, Roebuck and Co., in different capacities--the last one being secretary to the controller. She loves to garden, bowl, travel and spend time with her family.


       Jim Gabriel (husband of Earlene Gabriel) Jim retired at age 55 after 10 years of owning his own business. He was an electronics manufacturing sales rep. representing about 10 different companies selling their products. He also loves to garden, bowl, travel and spend time with his family.


       Evelyn Stafford Snyder operates a daycare in her home, and also takes care of her 5 yr. old grandson, and 20 month old granddaughter. She loves to write poems either using the persons name, or sometimes using candy bars and using words out of them to make the poem. Evelyn is married to Terry and they have one daughter, Lori Lynn.


      Mae Graham Stafford is well known for her quilt making. She has made a quilt for each grandchild as they graduate from high school, and baby quilts for each great grandchild. Mae is past 87 yrs. and resides with her daughter Janis and family.


       Janis Stafford Day works for U.S. Postal Service. She enjoys reading, sewing, and working on computer. Janis has 4 children, and 2 grandsons, and 1 on the way.


       Bob Day works for the B.N.S.F. Railroad and Track Foreman. He inspects track from Britton, OK to Red Rock, OK. Bob likes working on the farm, and raising cattle.


       Taylre Rena  Day is 8 years old and in the 3rd grade. She loves taking ballet and tap lessons, and playing basketball. She enjoys reading, riding her bicycle, and swimming.


       Ron is the son of Basel and Hilda Adkins and the grandson of George and Ella. He is a retired school counselor. He was the high school counselor for 32 years in Mulvane, Ks. Irene retired as school secretary for the Mulvane school district. They both enjoy travel. For many years they traveled to Canada during the summer for camping and walleye fishing. Irene often came in with biggest and most fish.  Since retiring In 1996 they have traveled to the Balloon Festival in Albuquerque, Yellowstone Park in January, New Orleans, Alaska, The Smokies to tour the Biltmore, driven to Oregon and Washington twice, to Natchez, Mississippi for the homes tour, to New Hampshire to view the fall colors and are planning an October trip up the Mississippi on a riverboat. Ron is an avid Kansas Jay hawk fan and they regularly travel to Lawrence for football and basketball games. Irene enjoys reading, cooking and is very involved with her church work. They have one daughter Cheryl who is married to Kevin Cardwell and two granddaughters, Amy and Cara.


       Marvin Dean Lewis, the third son of Dorothy Lucille Adkins and Emory Lewis was born in rural Burden, Cowley County Kansas in the Eastman Oil Field Lease house which served as The Lewis home.

      Marvin and Eva Stewart were united in marriage May 18, 1956, they celebrated their 44th anniversary in 2000. We have no children, we have lots of wonderful cousins.

      Marvin worked for his cousin Melvin Lewis, owner of Lewis Chevrolet in Burden during his high school years from age 14 to 18. Working as a mechanic in the garage he also drove eighteen wheelers for Melvin's trucking business. While employed for Melvin he purchased a 1955 Bel Air two door Chevrolet auto which he presently owns.

      His military duty was served from 1958 to 1962. After receiving an honorable discharge from the U S Air Force he attended Southwestern Oregon College in North Bend, Oregon.

      In 1957 he started flying airplanes and in 1965 he began a career in flying. After flying 32 years as an airline pilot he retired as Captain in 1997. He flew military troops into Vietnam for four years and was awarded a certificate of recognition from the United States Air Force for performing an outstanding service to the United States of America by participating in sustained aerial support of the United States Armed Forces engaged in combat operation within the Republic of South Vietnam.

      In 1972 he began a new journey in the cattle business and he still owns and operates a purebred Simmental cattle ranch near Sunset, Texas. Failure of the skies to release adequate moisture the last two years has lead to the need to irrigate, irrigation has keep him busy this summer.

      An intense interest in his family history has kept him very busy with an unending genealogy search finding and meeting many wonderful cousins. In 2000 he instigated an Adkins family reunion at Guthrie, Oklahoma.


      Emory James Lewis is the oldest child of Dorothy Adkins and Emory Lewis. He was born in the family owned Hotel in Cambridge KS. After his graduation from Burden High School he enlisted in the service where he became involved in electronics and made this his career. Emory became a highly technical engineer and has just recently retired from Rockwell Industries located in Florida with 35 years of service. He is the father of five children and they have blessed him with 9 grandchildren. Emory bought a retirement home in Burden KS and has become very involved with his hometown community.


      Donald Gene (Don) Lewis, the second child of Dorothy Adkins and Emory Lewis was born in a relative's home in Cambridge KS and graduated from Burden High School. After his term of service in the armed forces during the Korean War he began employment with Boeing Aircraft in Wichita KS and continued working in aircraft industries until his recent retirement. Don married Jane Smalley after her high school graduation and they have five children and a grandson. Don has held leadership positions in his church and has stayed very busy since his retirement with his new grandson and building a two-story garage in his back yard. He also enjoys bowling and golf.


      Jane Smalley Lewis was born in the Ponca City OK hospital. She attended grade school in Akron KS where she played the violin before moving on a farm north of Burden with her parents and two brothers. She served on the student council, was a member of the glee club and married Don Lewis after graduation from Burden High School. She raised five children before joining the work force. Having four girls she became an expert seamstress on demand but still enjoys sewing and handwork as a hobby. She retired from Sears Maintenance Department after 21 years of service and now enjoys her time with the grandson.


    Virginia Ann Lewis Atkins the oldest daughter of Dorothy Lucille Adkins and Emory Lewis was born in her Grandmother's home in Cambridge KS and graduated from Burden High School .  She has worked for the public most of her adult life, starting at Henderson Drug Store in Burden and then she spent the next 30 years as a D.E.O. and keypunch operator and has recently retired with 16 years service in caring for the handicapped. She has lived in Burden most of her life and her two children have given her six grandchildren and live close where she can enjoy their company.


      Marilyn Sue Lewis Plain is the youngest of Dorothy Adkins and Emory Lewis' five children. She was born in the front bedroom of the home in Burden. After overcoming some infant medical setbacks she did finally learn how to walk and talk. She attended Burden Grade School but moved to Texas when her father was transferred and graduated from Perryton High School. She married Huberton Plain right after graduation and became the mother of three. She's worked for the public in banking and educational offices, but now gets to spend time with her two grandsons.


      Huberton (Berton) Plain is the husband of Marilyn Lewis Plain. He was born in rural Beaver County OK and grew up living in the country with his parents, two brothers and a sister. He was president of FFA and graduated with academic honors from Beaver High School. He started working as an automotive parts man after a year of college and has been in this field for thirty-seven years throughout the tri-state area of Oklahoma, Texas and Kansas. He enjoys being with his three children and two grandsons, is an avid armchair sports fan supporting the Big 12, and still enjoys going to livestock shows.


      Melanie Lewis Doubiany is the daughter of Emory James Lewis and was born in Cedar Rapids IA. She graduated from Marion High School and received a degree in respiratory therapy from the Brevard Community College in Coco Florida. After working in this field for several years she resigned to become involved with other interests. She is now the Founder and President of the Iowa Children's Museum in Iowa City and has been named Citizen of the Year by the Iowa City Press for the outstanding work she has done for the youth of the area. Melanie is the Mother of two daughters.


      Nadia Doubiany, the oldest daughter of Melanie Doubiany, is the 9 years old granddaughter of Emory James Lewis. She was born in Iowa City IA and attends the Grant Wood Elementary School where she plays the Viola. She is a very personable young lady and enjoys going to the Children's Museum where her Mother works and loves to swim.


      Noelle Doubiany the youngest daughter of Melanie Doubiany and the granddaughter of Emory James Lewis was born in Iowa City, IA. She is 7 years old and attends Grant Wood Elementary School where she excels in math. She enjoys collecting things as groups and knows the relativity of each. She loves to swim and enjoys the activities at the Children's Museum where her Mother works.


      Dorothy Lucille Adkins Lewis is the daughter of James Henry and Mary Margaret Dawson Clover Adkins. She was born north of Cambridge KS and as a very young child she remembers riding the buggy 4 miles into Cambridge with her father during high waters and also eating the cherries off her Mother's new hat. During her youth she would make trips to Sapulpa Oklahoma with her Mother to visit her Dad who had secured work in the area. He lived a short distance from his parents in a lease house and these were the first memories Dorothy has of James Columbia Adkins. On one of these visits as a young teen she remembers her Aunt Ola taking her to an Indian Reservation for a Powwow and it being a little scary. Ola lived with her parents at this time and was raising Jack. During these frequent visits Dorothy became acquainted with her father's family and remembers playing with Jack as her Mother fished nearby. When she was sewing on Lucy's sewing machine one time she ran the needle through her finger. This was a very memorable moment. Dorothy's last memory of James Columbia Adkins was at Della's home where she was taking care of James Columbia after Lucy's death. Dorothy married Emory Lewis in 1929 and they have five children all born in the Burden area. During their young married life James Henry lived in Holly Co and on trips to visit him they also saw her Uncle John T Adkins and three of his children. Her Dad eventually moved back to Burden prior to his death. In 1958 Dorothy moved to Texas with her husband and worked in a drapery shop. After his retirement they returned to the Burden area. She now has 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She always made sure her children were dressed well even during the hardest times and made some of the most beautiful dresses from feed sacks for her daughters. She still sews for her family and continues to be a top-notch family care taker. In her spare time these days she enjoys putting jigsaw and crossword puzzles together.


      George M Adkins George is the son of Basel and Hilda Adkins and the grandson of George and Ella. He teaches history in Shawnee Mission West HS. He is married to Maureen Barnes Adkins


       Maureen Barnes Adkins Maureen is the wife of George M. Adkins. They live in Overland Park, Ks. They have two sons, Troy and Tyler who also live in Kansas City.


       Georgia Losket Adkins Georgia is the wife of Dixie Adkins. She lives in Salem, Oregon. She is the mother of 4 sons who all live in Oregon. Dixie was the son of George and Ella Adkins. Her sons are John, George, Randy, and Dean. George and John attended the Adkins Reunion.


       George Lionel Adkins George is the son of Dixie and Georgia Adkins and the grandson of George and Ella. George is a media specialist for the Salem school district. He is married to Janet Kent Adkins and they have two sons, Arlie and Andy. George has written school management and textbook management for schools and has his Trac-It software used in schools across the country.


       Janet Kent Adkins Janet is the wife of George L. Adkins of Salem, Oregon. They have two sons, Arlie and Andy. She is employed by the State of Oregon with an office in the capitol in Salem.


       John Curtis Adkins Son of Dixie and Georgia, grandson of George and Ella. Works for Hewlitt-Packard in Corvalis, Oregon. Master fisherman for steelhead, coho salmon, and trout. John lives in Albany, Oregon and is not married.
